A 30-year-old man from Bear received a 30-year prison sentence after he pled guilty to second-degree murder for shooting his friend in the head in 2007 for life insurance money.
According to Delaware Department of Justice officials, Jason Slaughter pled guilty in January to killing his friend Christopher Masters in Masters' Summit Bridge Trailer Park home in December 2007.
Slaughter shot himself in the shoulder in order to sell police on the idea that two men showed up to Masters' home and shot them.
After two years of the case being cold, slaughter had moved to Georgia and was arrested for the murder of Michael Haegle in 2010, at which point the Georgia Bureau of Investigation discovered Slaughter had been the beneficiary of a life insurance policies taken out on both Haegle and Masters.

He was indicted in 2012 for Masters; murder while in custody in Georgia and, after being convicted of Haegle's murder in August 2013 and sentenced to life-plus-seven-years, He was indicted for Masters' murder and sentenced to 30 years followed by 10 years probation.
His sentence in Delaware will begin upon at the completion of his sentence in Georgia, for which he will be eligible for parole in 2042.
